PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX LISTS

Note:  In 1784 the numbers indicate:  white males aged 16-21, slaves over the age of 16, slaves under the age of 16, horse, and cattle.  In 1788 they record:  white males aged 16-21, slaves, and horse.  From 1789-95 they record:  white males aged 16-21, slaves aged 12-16, slaves over the age of 16, and horses.  From 1796-1807 they list:  white males over the age of 16, slaves aged 12-16, slaves over the age of 16, and horses.  From 1809 they record:  slaves and horses.  Zeros straight across indicate no taxable personal property and no tithables (a minor or female as head of household).  There were separate land tax rolls to record the taxation of real property.  The levy of 1808 was never taken.  The county was split into three districts between 1784-94, and into two districts thereafter.  The numbering of these districts was not consistent from year to year.
